Tips and Best Practices for Successful Reimbursement
Attendees will learn what the understanding of "medical necessity" and documentation elements required of ordering physicians and other health professionals. Attendees will get an overview on the existing evidence for current prosthetic and orthotic devices and how to leverage it to connect patient needs, device functions, and evidence to justify the medical necessity of a device for an individual patient. They will also learn how to improve their documentation and how to avoid common mistakes that may compromise their claim applications. The all claim process will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives include:
- Develop an understanding of what “medical necessity” is and why it’s important
- Develop an understanding of what facts on the patient and the device medical staff is interested in and how these facts have to be connected to convince medical reviewers to approve a requested device.
- Understand the most important results of research with current advanced prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Leverage the existing scientific evidence to support the medical justification of a device.
- Improve documentation and avoid common documentation mistakes.
